Catch of the Day at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, British Columbia

Pat and Ann with their catch of the day at Clayoquot

We would typically not do a second  “Just Back” in the same month but the reviews on Clayoquot Wilderness Resort have been amazing.  Here’s a nice note we got from Ms. Pat Eisen of New Canaan TravelWorld.  Pat is a terrific travel advisor and very knowledgeable about her business.  Thanks for this Pat! Here are her comments:

Dear Jaj,

I had a marvelous 3 days at Clayoquot. From the departure on our seaplane to catching my “big salmon” to the beautiful scenery as I was horseback riding to the 5 course dinners with wine pairing to all the ocean adventures in our survival suites and to the greatly needed massage this was a magical experience!  Only comment is that 3 days is not enough. Please send my praises to the energetic, knowledgeable and helpful staff.  Thank you for all your assistance. Thought you would enjoy the attached photo (not a beauty pageant pix but certainly captures our feelings at the moment) - Pat Eisen

Just Back from Twin Farms; Judy Stein of Ovation Travel

We’re so happy to continue with our “Just Back” series.  This month we’re featuring Jaj of Travel reader, Ms. Judy Stein of New York.  Judy is a talented and knowledgeable travel advisor and Co-President with Ovation Travel. She has great knowledge of some of the world’s best hotels and resorts.  Judy and her husband were recent visitors at Twin Farms in Barnard, Vermont.  Here are her comments:

Judy at Twin Farms

“Just got back from Twin Farms and all I can say is “WOW!!” My husband and I LOVED the property….we truly loved everything about it! The “Treehouse” accommodation was gorgeous and we really enjoyed it!  I was able to see quite a few accommodations. They are all SO unique and wonderful, each in their own way!  The food was over the top and we looked forward to each dining experience….from the soufflé pancakes for breakfast to the delicious duck breast with truffled polenta for dinner….all made with the finest local ingredients, we were in heaven!  We also loved Eric, the Sommelier, and my husband who is an avid wine collector enjoyed chatting with him about the extensive wines in the hotel’s cellar. Our goal was to do every activity offered and we accomplished pretty much everything, except a bike ride!  We hiked, fished, played tennis, billiards, ping pong, darts, used the gym and I had a massage…the hiking was really incredible!  The activities made me feel like I was in a luxurious sleep away camp…it truly was so special and we can’t wait to go back!!”

About Palazzo Sasso

Palazzo Sasso is a stunning five star hotel on Italy’s famous Amalfi coat. It was built during the 12th century as a palace for royalty.  It opened as a hotel following World War II but closed during the 1970s.  The hotel reopened in July 1997, following a $20 million refurbishment.   The hotel has 32 rooms and 11 suites and boasts a staff to guest ratio of 2 employees per room.  Palazzo Sasso is home to Rossellinis’, a two Michelin stars restaurant, and two other restaurants serving unique and delicious, unforgettable food.

Sasso by the Sea, Ravello, Italy

In 2009 Palazzo Sasso added Sasso by the Sea - a private villa acquired by the hotel that sits mere steps away from the pristine waters.  Guests of Palazzo Sasso will have exclusive access to Sasso by the Sea daily during the season with a free private shuttle operating from the hotel to the seaside villa in the village of Marmorata, just a short drive away or an invigorating downhill walk. Sasso by the Sea’s amenities include a heavenly salt water pool, lush gardens with two cabanas, one men’s and one women’s changing room plus two “relaxation living” rooms.  No need to pack a lunch because on the peaceful terrace there will be a small restaurant serving local favorites including fabulous pizzas and seafood pulled directly from the waters surrounding the property as well as a full service bar.

Additionally Palazzo Sasso added an amenity choice program whereby anyone booking a King Sea View room or higher category directly through the hotel has the added benefit of choosing a bonus amenity on to their stay – at no additional charge.  Guests can choose from a spa treatment (massage, manicure or pedicure only) or a 20% discount on all lunch charges in house or parking in hotel garage for entire stay or mini bar usage for entire stay, or a guided walking tour of Ravello (approximately two hours) or one transfer to Amalfi and back from the hotel or internet access for entire stay or laundry service for entire stay (excluding dry cleaning) or in-room movies for entire stay or fresh flowers and fruit upon arrival.
