Gina Paoloni, president of Indagare, knows her way around St. Barth. She’s been visiting the island for the past 12 years. And as “someone who is passionate about discovering new places, the fact I make repeat visits says a lot for the destination,” says Gina. “It is a magical place. My husband jokes that if you can’t be happy in St. Barth, you can’t be happy. And I have come to believe that’s true.
“There is nothing I don’t love about St. Barth. I love that I feel as if I am in France, yet only a four-hour flight from New York. I am always struck by the physical beauty of the island, but what I love most is the vibe, which strikes the perfect balance of chic and upscale and laid-back casual.”
Gina recently spent time at Hotel Le Toiny, which she had visited prior to the hotel’s coastal-chic renovations. As one of the first travel advisors to see and feel the hotel’s new look, including the new beach club area, we were eager for her to share her impressions.
“While the hotel was lovely before, it has been completely transformed and is truly stunning,” says Gina. “The new beach club is a game changer and I love the Range Rover shuttles that take you there. I love the spacious villas which are so soothing and beautifully decorated. And while I love, too, the design of the common spaces, I am obsessed with the oyster-shell bar adjacent to the restaurant. The bar itself is so unique and the pink pop of color on the chairs is so fun and immediately inviting.
“Having a relaxed lunch under the palm trees at the beach club is now one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon on St. Barth. The food was so fresh and cooked to perfection; the service was attentive yet never obtrusive.
“Hotel Le Toiny is perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway. It has such a secluded feel as this side of the island is less inhabited; the landscape a bit more rustic and untamed. The hotel is also wonderful for families with well-behaved children – those who are content to read a book under a palm tree rather than those who need entertainment of a kid’s club.”
