Namibia, Africa’s hottest ‘it-list’ destination has a new hotel. By Zannier Hotels.
Zannier Hotels opened its second Namibia location – Sonop – on July 1. Elegantly vintage, Sonop features ten one- and two-bedroom tents – each set on a boulder offering panoramic desert views, and styled with a 1920s British colonial vibe. Hand-sourced, one-of-a-kind authentic period pieces including ornate rugs and precious antiques.
Guests also enjoy a separate cocktail/cigar lounge. Spa. Horse stables. And opulent gastronomic experience – complete with candelabras, black-tie and white-glove service (guests’ jackets provided).
Sonop is the vision of hotelier Arnaud Zannier. “I have been working for more than a year on Sonop (which means sunrise in the Afrikaans),” says Arnaud. “I am so excited to see it. When you work hard on a project and imagine it, you just want to see it finished.”
Activities include game drives (oryx, hyena, rabbits, fox, jackal, kudu and leopard), horseback riding (Sonop has its own stables), electric mountain biking. And made-to-order hot-air ballooning or dinners in the wild.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sonop into the JCR family,” says Janine Cifelli. “When I visited Zannier’s Omaanda last year (and fell quickly and deeply in love), I also saw the site of Sonop. Its bold rock outcropping and first sample tent. It is exciting to now see Sonop – rise from the desert – offering travelers’ glimpses into the Africa of yesteryear.”
Sonop is located at the southern extremity of the Namib desert in the Karas region of Namibia.
