Zannier Hotels’ 1898 Postin historic Ghent, Belgium, is pedestrian friendly. A walking town, reminiscent of a small Amsterdam. My favorite place to stay:the once-upon-a-time (now converted) post office – 1898 Post, with room categories named “Envelope, Stamp, Postcard and Letter.” I love the high ceilings, dark green walls, and the indirect light – all of which lend to a moody, wintery ambience.
I especially love The Cobbler, the hotel’s’ vibey, vintage-style bar with views of Ghent’s spires. And where renowned barman Jurgen Nobels – named one of the top ten in the world – mixes his fabulous, cocktail-shaker concoctions. As decadent as they are delish.
